ÃÛÌÒTV Honorary Membership
Awarded to individuals whose contributions to the field of veterinary internal medicine warrant special recognition by the College for a life’s work in one of the ÃÛÌÒTV’s six specialties
ÃÛÌÒTV Honorary Member nominations are collected January 1–July 31 each year. Nominations are reviewed by the ÃÛÌÒTV Board of Regents and voted on by the members and active Diplomates of the specialty an individual is being nominated for.
Nominations are closed for 2025 and will reopen January 1, 2026.

Honorary Members Cannot:
- Refer to themselves as a Diplomate of the ÃÛÌÒTV
- Vote or hold ÃÛÌÒTV office
- Serve on an ÃÛÌÒTV standing committee in an official capacity
- Receive CE discounts or access to members-only courses
- Serve as a PD, RA, SD and/or SSSD, unless otherwise specified by the specialty
Completed nominations must include:
- Nomination letter from an ÃÛÌÒTV Diplomate of the specialty being nominated for,
- At least four additional letters of support, and
- The nominee’s CV.
To be eligible for Honorary Membership of the ÃÛÌÒTV, a person should be so exceptional that there can be no question regarding their suitability.
- The designation, Honorary Member, is intended to recognize the outstanding and consequential contribution of an individual to the field of veterinary internal medicine.
- The designation, Honorary Member, is intended to recognize the contribution of an individual to the field of veterinary internal medicine, rather than recognizing an individual who represents the accomplishments of many.
- Honorary Membership of the ÃÛÌÒTV should be conferred because of a contribution to the field of veterinary internal medicine reflecting more than simply a passing interest, and more than local or regional achievements. The nominating packet should demonstrate a long-term commitment to the field of veterinary internal medicine at a national and/or international level.
- The person elected to Honorary Membership should be of such caliber as to reflect honor upon the ÃÛÌÒTV by this designation.
- The individual should invariably project professional behavior and embody the values of the ÃÛÌÒTV, including inclusion, integrity, connection, empathy and excellence.
